Posted at 7:39 am by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on September 23, 2014

Cafe lattes are often WAY overpriced and can contain many unhealthy ingredients like artificial syrup, chemical preservatives and refined sugars.

Are you looking for a more economical and healthier version?  I certainly was, so I created my own!

With 4 easy steps you can create your own fresh, creamy drinks in the comfort of your home.  The best part – you can use real ingredients, actual spices and natural sweeteners to customize your drink.

Pumpkin Spiced Lattes are my favourite.  This version uses real pumpkin, spices and creamy coconut milk that takes less than 5 minutes to make!

      Ingredients

Pumpkin Spiced “Latte” is also a perfect gluten-free, dairy-free and Paleo-friendly drink option for anyone with food sensitivities to wheat, grain or dairy.  You can even make it autoimmune protocol friendly by omitting a few optional ingredients.

4 Simple Steps.  Ready, Set, Go, Enjoy! Continue reading →

    • Sweet Maple & Berry Glazed Salmon

I can’t believe how fast the summer went.  September is here and that means it’s time to get serious!  My son has started full-time kindergarten this year and he already has a whole week under his belt.  I prepare most of the food in the home so I’m forced to quickly get organized so that I can provide healthy breakfasts, packed lunches and weeknight dinners.  Sometimes a little routine after a busy summer doesn’t feel too bad.  But I’m still going to miss those gorgeous evenings and the warm summer breezes!

For school I like to prepare nutrient dense meals to fill my kiddies and keep them as healthy as I can.  Sending your kid to school is a bit like putting a sponge in a petri dish.  The best thing we can do as parents is to give our kids the proper nutrition to give them a fighting chance and to help them recover from bugs quickly.  I love Autumn but the sicknesses I could certainly live without.   My son already has the sniffles today after the first week. • Reflecting with Chocolate Dipped Coconut & Fresh Fig Bites

Posted at 7:43 am by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on July 14, 2014

Do you make time for yourself each day?

When the kiddies go down, I love taking the opportunity to sit back, steep a hot tea and spend a few minutes to reflect on the day or life in general.  Life gets very busy and sometimes carving out a break is about as easy as getting toothpaste back in the tube.  But even if you only manage 5-15 minutes before there’s another matter to attend to it’s very important to make some time for yourself.  It is just so beneficial to your well-being and also your loved ones.  A happy mommy makes a happy family they say!

Refreshing your body and mind aside, it’s also easier to appreciate everything you have when you take a step back and reflect.

    • This is Your Next Healthy Snack. Introducing Brussels Chips!

Posted at 3:23 pm by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on June 8, 2014

Oh sure you might know about kale chips… but did you know about brussel chips??

Crispy, salty, bite size deliciousness… these characteristics make for some quality snacking.  I have pencilled in some quality snacking for today’s agenda and I always keep my appointments!

Next time you make some brussels sprouts, don’t toss out the outer leaves that are sometimes removed for cleaning.  Set them aside and wash them well.  These are the lovelies that will be getting crisped up with some lemon and dill.  They make an awesome healthy snack for movie night (or whatever crazy shenanigans you’re getting into tonight).  Your movie might not be great but this idea certainly gets two thumbs up. • Best BBQ Burger with Carrot Greens

Posted at 8:20 am by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on June 2, 2014

      SimplyWholeFoods_Best Burgers

Nothing beats a summer BBQ!   Especially when the food is quick to prep and tastes amazing.   I just love being able to spend time outdoors  and eliminate the need to heat up the kitchen in the hot summer months.

While the food grills on the BBQ, the kids get important outdoor time where they get to play in the backyard and soak up some healthy Vitamin D from the sun.

If you follow me on social media sites (instagram, facebook, twitter) you have probably seen me posting outdoor pics recently.  We fixed up our deck and installed a new gate so I’m really looking forward to making some great memories in the backyard this year.

I’m currently setting up some container gardens and have ordered the parts for a raised garden as well.  I’m excited for the prospect of fresh, home-grown organic produce and herbs!   I’ll try and get some pics posted when I have the raised garden setup.  Any tips are appreciated!

Yesterday my son planted his own herb garden.  He now has a little space of his own to experiment with.  He will be in control of his little garden bed so we shall see how that goes.  I plan to hold him accountable!

Summer musings out of the way, I’ve got a super amazing recipe for you!  It’s a delicious, mouth-watering burger that will hit the spot! It’s also very simple to make, I promise. Continue reading →
