      Best part-rewarding.

Not only will you feel great eating healthy whole foods but your body will thank you.  Fuel your body with the good stuff and reap the long-term rewards:

    • Travelling with food intolerance? Here’s some tips…

Posted at 2:01 am by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on June 20, 2013

Booking vacation is so exciting. The thought of a new city, unseen sights and all of the possibilities that await. From the time you book, until the day you depart, the excitement begins.

Once planning begins, the reality sets in for all of us who suffer from food allergies or intolerance.   What to eat the entire time you’re away? Three meals, each and every day.  Just thinking about the food planning process can be exhausting. Continue reading →

    • Simply Sides…

Posted at 4:33 pm by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on June 3, 2013

20130603-103037.jpg Maple Drizzled Sweet Potatoes, Oregano Roasted Potatoes with Lemon and Garlicky Button Mushrooms. Need I say more?

I would like to share a few of my go-to and favourite side dishes, which I call, Simply Sides. I love them because they all have few ingredients, take only a minute to prep and go with almost everything. The real bonus is the oven temp and time is the same for all three dishes. Three simple sides that pair well together for taste as well as cooking convenience. Love it!

Sweet potatoes are little nutrition powerhouses packed with the good stuff…they even say sweet potatoes can help stabilize blood sugar levels! I find that potatoes and mushrooms are great company pleasers. What’s better on a busy night than a simple side? 3 simply sides! Continue reading →

    • Is Healthy Eating Too Hard?

Posted at 2:19 pm by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on June 1, 2013

      photo (24)

There seems to be a large misconception about healthy eating.

I hosted a party last night for my sister’s birthday.  My whole family came over for dinner followed by cake and coffee.  We ended up sitting around chatting for hours into the night.   Toward the end of the night, the conversation turned to “healthy eating” and the consensus seemed to be:

      1. Too hard
      2. Too expensive
      3. Too time-consuming

I sat back and took it all in.  I chose not to say anything, at that point, as I wanted to really think about what everyone had to say and defend “healthy eating” with a thought out response.

I know from experience, convincing people, healthy eating is not only achievable but can be cost efficient and straightforward (once you figure out the basics!) is not an easy task.

I love healthy eating and find that I’m very passionate about food, natural living and attaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.  I would love to help everyone struggling with achieving their personal healthy living goals.  The one thing….super important…if not the most important factor….you truly and deeply have to want to change and be willing to push yourself beyond your comfort boundaries.

Once committed to a new way of thinking and a new life style of healthy eating, there are a few basic steps that can go along way in achieving a new lease of life! Continue reading →

    • Simply Smooth Red Pepper Hummus

Posted at 7:32 pm by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on May 31, 2013

      SimplyWholeFoods_Red_Pepper_Hummus

My sister came over yesterday morning to work on wedding shower prep.  We are hosting a shower for my younger sister this Sunday.  We spent the whole day preparing, crafting, organizing, meal planning…it was a long day!

By lunch time we were in need of some serious food fuel to get us through the afternoon and continue on with the seemingly endless wedding prep!  My sister suggested hummus, and, luckily, I had canned chickpeas, garlic, and sesame seeds on hand.  They are staples in my house and happen to be the base for great hummus recipes!

I decided on a Super Smooth Red Pepper Hummus.  This recipe is super quick, tasty and perfect served alongside fresh-cut up veggies, pita, bread sticks…pretty much whatever you have on hand. Continue reading →
