    • Dark & Decadent Chocolate Bark-The Perfect Valentine’s Gift

Posted at 3:41 pm by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on February 11, 2014

Dark chocolate is definitely one of my favourite indulgences.

Is there anything better than a hot sip of coffee followed by a bite of rich dark chocolate?  It immediately melts into a smooth and creamy moment of pure bliss!

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, there is no better time to make some handcrafted chocolate.  What’s a more fitting way to say ‘I love you’ than with a gift of homemade Dark & Decadent Chocolate Bark?

I’m delighted to skip the expensive chocolate stores and inflated prices of Valentine’s Day merchandise.  I also get to avoid all of the iffy ingredients (refined sugar, preservatives) found in store-bought chocolate.

You can get quite creative and personable with this gift.  A classic tin lined with wax paper or parchment paper always makes for a pleasing package.

I’m considering heading to the craft store and picking up some clear gift bags.  I’d love to secure the bag closed with some cooking twine and attach a personalized gift tag.

This bark has a mere 3 ingredients for the base.  The toppings are optional and customizable to taste.

      • Raw cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
      • Raw cacao butter
      • Honey

    • Egg Muffins Anyone?

Mmm, I love these customizable egg muffins. They make such a cute and perfect little package.

Eggs alone are considered one of the most complete proteins on the planet but why stop there?  Let’s give it even more nutritional punch by packing in some iron (baby spinach) and also the fresh taste of dill.  These egg muffins combine to create one healthy, delicious & simple breakfast.  If you don’t like dill and spinach, simply substitute with a fresh herb and a veggie of choice.

    • Chocolate Nut & Seed Cookies

Posted at 2:38 pm by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on December 21, 2013

In many households it’s a tradition to leave out a plate of cookies & a large cup of milk for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.

But is anyone considering that Santa may have food sensitivities or allergies?  Better to err on the side of caution to ensure Santa doesn’t have to miss out on enjoying some well deserved treats.

I’d feel really bad if Santa couldn’t indulge.

Here is a recipe that is completely grain, wheat, dairy, soy, egg and refined sugar-free.  A perfect holiday treat for me..or for Santa I mean! Continue reading →

    • Raw Honey & Cinnamon Cranberry Sauce

Posted at 8:38 pm by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on November 26, 2013

SimplyWholeFoods-CranberrySauceSome would argue (myself included) that a holiday feast is incomplete without the cranberry sauce.

Layered on turkey, added to stuffing or mixed with fresh steamed veggies – it seems that cranberry sauce elevates the taste of everything it touches.

I also love the ruby-red colour which adds beautiful visual appeal to the plate.  Presentation is key don’t forget!

Unfortunately, most traditional pre-made cranberry sauces from the grocery store are laden with refined sugar. Continue reading →
