Does the high price of gluten free or grain free flour keep you from exploring the world of alternative flours?

The cost of gluten free product can be quite prohibitive.  Sometimes I feel like you need to win the lottery before embarking down the gluten free isle of the supermarket.

Luckily, it doesn’t have to be this way!

With 4 simple steps you can create your own fresh, fluffy almond flour in the comfort of your home.  The best part – you can grind your own almond flour with a regular high-powered blender (I use Vitamix).  No grain attachment necessary! Continue reading →

    • Paleo Diet Explained

With any type of food intolerance or allergy it can feel as if you are drowning with nowhere to go and nothing to grasp on to.

It’s easy to feel lost in a sea of gluten-free prepackaged foods (which are often nutrient void and extremely expensive).  The high cost and lack of good recipes can make committing to an allergen-free diet an overwhelming prospect.

I have spent countless hours searching the net for gluten-free and dairy free bread recipes that don’t contain yeast or sugar.  Often times, I’ll end up with bread that tastes like cardboard.

One day I stumbled upon the Paleo diet.  I was introduced to a world of delicious food this is all dairy free, gluten-free, soy free, grain free and refined sugar-free.  Luckily, the diet is not taste free or nutrition free – it’s quite the opposite actually! Continue reading →

    • Orange Banana Tropical Breeze Smoothie

Posted at 9:01 am by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on August 22, 2013

There’s nothing that says breakfast better than a large cup of fresh pressed OJ alongside bacon (nitrate free of course!) and eggs! I always like to add a side of kale.

Here is a twist on the traditional glass of orange juice…still simple with an added banana coconut flavour burst and a great protein boost!

      20130822-082041.jpg

Let this smoothie be your wake up call! Fuel your engine (or your loved one’s tummies) with this baby!

      Orange Banana Tropical Breeze Smoothie

      The Ingredients:

      • 2 oranges, peeled
      • 15 frozen banana chunks (approx 1 inch chunks)
      • 2 tbsp raw hemp protein powder (or protein powder of choice)
      • 1/4 cup calcium enriched coconut milk Continue reading →

    • Kids love Superhero Smoothies!

Posted at 8:28 pm by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on August 18, 2013

One way that I make healthy eating enjoyable for my little ones is to make it fun (superhero kinda fun!).  It sounds simple and it is simple!!

Every little kid (and most daddies) love superheroes, fantasy worlds and make believe.

Why not create an avocado, spinach, green grape Yoda Smoothie?  How about a layered Zebra Smoothie using banana and coconut as one layer with dark purple grapes and cherries as a second layer?

For some reason, Ninja Turtle Ooze Smoothie is far more desirable to a young boy then Spinach Kale Banana Avocado Smoothie.  Little does he know, the ingredients for both are the same.

Here is the simple recipe for Protein Papaya Mixed Berry Blast a.k.a  Prince Papaya of Berry Land

    • Coconut Protein Pancakes

Posted at 11:40 am by Hollie Jeakins Photography, on August 12, 2013

As a mom of two precious toddlers and a devoted wife, I take food prep seriously.  I feel a strong sense of responsibility to provide clean food that will help my children grow into strong, healthy individuals.  I also want to live a long and healthy life with my husband by my side.

      20130810-163721.jpg
That being said,  it’s essential that I  provide optimal food fuel for my entire family.

I plan on traveling the world one day, with my husband by my side, drinking wine in Rome, sake in Japan and climbing the hills of Scotland (I should probably start saving now).  I need us all to be healthy for years to come!! Continue reading →
